Visit from Mayor Tanya Taylor
Mayor Tanya Taylor of Willoughby Council, visited the Preschool to tell the children about her role as Mayor and to read a book, Rosie’s Walk, for the children.
Mayor Tanya’s children are past students of our Preschool, and she is also the President of Willoughby Community Special Needs Preschool Inc, a charitable entity which contributes to the funding for an additional educator to support children with additional needs in the classroom.
We found out that the Mayor's job as head of the council, is looking after the community of Willoughby, the buildings, the roads, the playgrounds, sports fields and the libraries. The children were then invited to take a closer look at the Mayor's robes and found out that the fur is rabbit and the medallion has native flowers of Waratah, Christmas Bells and Flannel flowers. 'Civic regalia' is the name for the chains of office worn by the Mayor and the medals attached display the names of all the past Mayors from 1865.
